Urban Neurosis and Social Stress A view from Santiago
To understand why I chose this topic is necessary, for you, to know that I’m from a peaceful city named San Carlos, a city located in the region of Bio Bio, soon region of Ñuble. Well, San Carlos is a city without a lot of noise, lights or big buildings. When it’s gets dark the people go home and the streets are almost empty, the little noise that there was in the afternoon disappears, it’s like a ghost town.
When I arrived in Santiago I knew the chaos that I had heard: the noise, the lights, the people everywhere, pollution, etc, a picture completely different to my city.
Santiago is, with all these things, a source of mental wear for a several reasons
The public transport is not sufficient for all the people that live in Santiago, for this reason, in the peak times, overcrowding occurs, producing a few troubles to the people and between the people.
The noise of the city, building trades, cars, uproar and the lights produce confusion, headache, the people can’t, even, concentrate on his thoughts.
There are many people in Santiago but no one talk with no one, there is distrust, paranoia, its prefer go alone, listening to music, playing with the phone.
Despite being millions in Santiago we seem to be alone, each with his group.
With this I do not mean that Santiago does not have his beautiful side, but it is a source of neurosis and social stress
